Police in Naivasha have arrested the mastermind behind the spate of carjackings along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway targeting matatus.
The suspect was arrested barely a fortnight after his three colleagues were shot dead moments after carjacking a matatu and robbing passengers near Naivasha town.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed the arrest noting that they were still pursuing the other two suspects who were in hiding.
“The suspects were six in total and three were gunned down and three managed to escape with gunshot wounds but we have managed to arrest the ringleader,” said the source.
Meanwhile, there was a moment of panic in Gilgil after Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) detonated a colonial bomb found in one of the private farms in the area.
Members of the public who were unaware of what was going scrambled for safety following the loud explosion that rocked Mbegi village off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
In the last couple of months, residents of Gilgil, Mai Mahiu and Namcha areas have stumbled on several colonial bombs left behind by soldiers over 50 years ago.
A worker in the vast farm located near Kenyatta barracks spotted the suspicious metal before informing her bosses who in turn told the police.
