CS told to steer clear of politics until 2022 : The Standard

Elected leaders have asked Labour and Social Security Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani (pictured) to keep off local politics until the next General Election. Governor Muhamud Ali, his Deputy Solomon Gubo, Laisamis MP Musa Arbelle and Assembly Majority Halkano Ali Konso accused Mr Yattani of undermining the county government's development agenda by holding weekly political rallies in the volatile Saku Constituency where more than 20 people have died, including a chief, in the last two months. "I have just launched full scholarship for 193 students who will join top national schools in the country but the CS (Yattani) should stop undermining my administration. Let him come in 2022 we square it out in the ballot," said Governor Muhamud Ali.

Mr Muhamud asked the CS to focus on his docket and to aid in peace-building in the county. "I am focused on my job as you see today. When I lost to him last time (2013), I got a small job (as chairman of NHIF). Now he is blessed with a job as CS, we ask him to give us a break," said the governor. Deputy Governor Solomon Gubo said the administration was disturbed by the public rallies the CS allegedly holds every weekend, adding that they would not be distracted by his rhetoric. Laisamis MP Musa Arbelle said Muhamud's administration had addressed the needs of the four sub-counties Mr Konso pinpointed last month’s public rally by Yattani where he alleged that that the CS made inciting remarks that led to the clashes with two people injured including the Dirib Gombo chief.

‘‘He (Yattani) was not on official duty. He came for campaign but he is allowed by law to try his luck in 2022but he should not use his ministerial position to undermine our work,’’ said Konso. The Uran Ward MCA added; ‘‘The CS should for now focus on his mandate to address labour strikes like that of teachers’’. When contacted for a response to the attacks, Yattani told The Standard he would comment later, "at the appropriate time".
