Detectives from DCI in Nairobi are investigating fictitious tenders worth billions of shillings at the Port of Mombasa. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations sleuths, who descended at the port last week, have been taking away several documents from procurement and engineering departments to gather evidence against former and present Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) managers. Among the departments targeted are marine, electrical and engineering units. KPA acting Managing Director Rashid Salim confirmed that detectives were carrying out investigations.

Mr Salim, who took over after Daniel Manduku resigned on April 17, advised KPA employees approached by the detectives to supply them with the documents being sought. Detectives are said to be investigating reports that billions were lost when businessmen were paid to supply non-existent goods.
