William Ruto is working on a plan to win the Kisii community vote that is slowly sliding away from his hands due to the emerging cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi factor in the region’s political matrix.
Sources say that Ruto is concerned with the mass defections from his camp by Gusii politicians initially associated with him in his plot to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

CS Matiang’i
As result , the DP recently held a meeting at his Karen home before heading to the region to officiate at a graduation ceremony. The DP meeting came after that of prominent Kisii personalities held at Matiang’i’s house in Nairobi where it was decided to back the CS to help the community bargain in post Uhuru era. Word has it that those present at the talks after departure were against those Ruto had picked to lead in his hunt for Gusii vote.
Ruto to counter this move, held meetings with separate groups from both Kisii and Nyamira.

Deputy governor Joash Maangi
Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi led one of the groups to his Karen home that had more than 20 ward representatives. MPs present included Shadrack Mose (Kitutu Masaba), Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) and Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango).
Immediately after the visit, Orange Democratic Movement treasurer Timothy Bosire told Ruto he was wasting time in the region.
Ruto has visited the region over 20 times with Maangi and Nyamoko. It has emerged that Ruto has spent over Sh50 million to woo voters.
Ruto has also been financing his allies to win over votes from Kisii and Nyamira counties. Ruto enjoys support of nine MPs from Gusii region.
