Education Ministry to release KCSE results latest Monday

Over 600,000 candidates who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Examinations are set to know their fate latest Monday next week if government honours its pledge to release the results before Christmas.

At the end of the National examinations last month Kenya National Examination Council Chair, Prof George Magoha confirmed the results would be out before Christmas.

This means that candidates still have a window between today, Friday and Monday within which their fate will be revealed.

However, it has emerged that the Ministry is yet to formulate rules that would operationalize ranking of schools and candidates as provided for in the new law passed in 2016, and this could explain the delay…

President Kenyatta signed into law a Bill that re-introduced ranking of schools and candidates based on performance.

The law was banned in 2014 after it was established the practice created unnecessary competition among schools, resulting in examination irregularities.

The marking of exams ended on Friday last week.

Last year, the then Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’I released the KCSE 2017 results on Wednesday 20^th December.

Then Kirimi Naomi of Pangani Girls was ranked best with a performance index of 87.011.

She was followed closely by Sharon Jepchumba of Moi Girls’ High School in Eldoret, Brian Maina of Alliance High School and Kut Donata of Lenana School in 3^rd and 4^th positions respectively.

At that time, based on unofficial rankings Sing’ore Girls’ High School in Elgeyo-Marakwet County topped with a performance index of 69.9% while Light Academy of Mombasa came second with a performance index of 69.15%.
