Former Commonwealth games bronze medalist Benson Gicharu held his final exhibition bout at Mariakini Primary School ground in South ‘B’, months after hanging his gloves following an illustrious boxing career.

The talented pugilist, who retired from competitive boxing after representing Kenya at the commonwealth games in Gold Coast Australia this year, chose Mukuru as an ideal venue for the exhibition bout.

Without a standard boxing ring indicating a humble beginning the soft spoken Gicharu took on his Kenya Police compatriot Maurice Ochieng.

The two boxers who were both brought up in Mukuru displayed outstanding skills all in an effort to motivate young upcoming boxers.

Gicharu singled out his illustrious boxing career as a testimony that World beaters can be nurtured from the slums.

His sentiments were echoed by Ochieng who is an active boxer of the Kenya Police boxing team ‘Chafua Chafua’.

The event dubbed ‘ Mukuru Talanta Fom Yangu’  was aimed at showcasing different talents from the slums.
