Government suspends all public events over CoronaVirus fear - KBC

The government has suspended all public gatherings in the wake of confirmation of the first Corona Virus in the country.

Visits to prisons have also been banned for the next 30days.

While speaking to the press the CS Kagwe invoked the Public Health Act which requires Kenyans to:

1. Maintain a distance of at least one metre from persons who are coughing

2. Those coughing and have fever and difficulty in breathing should stay at home

3. All public gatherings, and events that have large gatherings

4. Suspension of inter-school events but schools will remain open

5. Public transport operators will be required to regularly clean their vehicles and provide sanitizers to passengers

6. Suspension of all visits to prisons for the next 30 days

7. Kenyans have been warned against spreading misinformation

8. Unless absolutely necessary, traveling to affected countries have been banned

This comes following a the first confirmation of the #Covid_19 case in Nairobi, Kenya which was confirmed on 12th March 2020.

The #Covid_19  case is a Kenyan citizen who traveled back to Nairobi returning from the United States of America via London, United Kingdom on the 5th March 2020.

She was confirmed positive by the National Influenza Centre Laboratory at the National Public Health Laboratories.

The patient is clinically stable, and is being managed at the Infectious Diseases Unit at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
