Mule calls upon Azimio fraternity to rally behind Wavinya Ndeti in Machakos

Businessman Dan Mule has urged Azimio la Umoja candidates contesting for Machakos governorship to relinquish their bids and support Wavinya Ndeti for the position during the forthcoming August General Elections.

Mule, a confidant of the wiper candidate said for the sake of unity demonstrated on Thursday after former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka rejoined former prime minister Raila Odinga in his Presidential ambition, the unpopular aspirants for Machakos county seat should shelve their interest in favour of Wavinya.

“Truth be told Wavinya Ndeti is the people’s candidate on the ground hence need for other Azimio candidates to step down to her advantage. Baba Raila Odinga told us that the weak aspirants should pull out of the race and back those who stand a chance of winning. My candidate continues to extend an olive branch to our competitors in working together in a bid of making Machakos greater” he noted.

The battle for county top seat is intensifying, with aspirants traversing the county to woo voters in a contest which has attracted various candidates seeking to replace incumbent Governor Alfred Mutua.

Former State House chief of staff Nzioka Waita is among those battling out with the former Transport and Infrastructure Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS)on Azimio la Umoja under the ticket of Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party.

Mule, the former long serving football admnistrator now says Wavinya’s vast experience in politics and leadership in various capacities will be paramount in her quest to transform Machakos county into 24 hour economy.

“Having been a member of parliament, an assistant minister and recently a CAS gives Hon Wavinya an edge over the rest because she has acquired enough experience needed in service delivery. Her huge networks and connections with top government heavyweights will also propel her in pushing for goodies and resources to Machakos which has really lagged behind during the last 10 years” he added.

In the last two elections, the battle for the Machakos governor seat has been one between the Wiper party and a fringe party.

Besides facing competition from the fringe party, Wiper will be confronted by another rival in Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which is fielding its chairman Johnson Muthama – a former Machakos senator and Mr Musyoka’s confidant-turned-bitter foe.

In 2013, Ms Wavinya polled 92,219, losing to eventual winner, Wiper’s Alfred Mutua (257, 367). Dr Mutua successfully defended his seat in 2017 on a Maendeleo Chap Chap ticket.

The governor polled 249,603 to once again trounce Ms Ndeti (209,141) who had defected to Wiper.

Wavinya who has served as Kathiani MP between 2007-2013 on the Chama Cha Uzalendo ticket, which she would use again in 2013 in her first unsuccessful gubernatorial quest is convinced this is now her best chance.
