Kenya and Ethiopia are primed for an intriguing battle for Africa’s bragging rights on Friday afternoon when the 2022 World Indoor Athletics Championships get underway at the Štark Arena in Belgrade Friday.
Rivals Ethiopia is by far the most successful African nation at the World indoor games.
The Ethiopians have won a total of five medals at each of the last five editions since 2010.
According to World Athletics, a total of 680 entries (372 men and 308 women) have entered this weekend’s edition in the Serbian capital.
These include 10 defending champions from the last contest along with several Olympic champions from last year’s Tokyo Olympic Games.
Kenya has entered 10 athletes including sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala and Asbel Kiprop.
Standard Sports looks at the Kenya athletes set to fly the nation's flag high in Belgarde with an aim to improve on their 2018 performance in Birmingham, England where Kenya won just one medal - a bronze from Bethwell Birgen in the 3,000m.
