Kenyans have been urged to strictly use properly disinfected water as a precautionary measure against the spread of Corona Virus and other waterborne diseases.
Water treatment specialist Davis & Shirtliff has also expressed concern on the rise in misinformation on how COVID-19 spreads.
So far there are no reported cases of direct water related transmission of COVID-19 in Kenya. However individuals and institutions operating water treatment systems have been advised to ensure their systems are well serviced to prevent contamination.
“Conventional water treatment methods that use filtration, chlorination and ultraviolet treatment, such as those in most domestic, industrial and municipal drinking water systems should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.”

Davis & Shirtliff has also recommended the use of appropriate disinfectants such as Chlorine solutions at concentrations of about 50g per 1000litres (50ppm) as recommended by WHO to clean surfaces and inactivate the virus which is known to persist on inanimate surfaces for extended periods.
In a statement Davis & Shirtliff also urges Kenyans to get in touch with their nearest service provider for appropriate advice and action “In case of any emergencies or concerns with regards to water treatment and disinfection.”
