DAILY POST: Relief for JOY GWENDO as court quashes her two-year jail term – MARAGA’s judiciary is for the rich and corrupt Politics 06:26 Wednesday February 27, 2019-High Court Judge John Onyiego, has quashed a two-year jail term slapped on ex-Senator Joy Gwendo for Sh1.7 million fraud.
The corrupt Judge faulted the Judge who sentenced Gwendo and ordered for fresh sentencing.  To add salt to injury the Judge released the ex-senator with Sh 400,000 cash bail. "Sentencing is a discretion of the trial court but the sentencing imposed should not be illegal. I find that it was improper for the trial court to impose a jail term without the option of a fine," Judge Onyiego said.  Onyiego further added that the High Court has powers to review the sentencing and, therefore, she will be sentenced afresh on Monday March 4, 2019.  The ruling has generated a social media with many Kenyans expressing frustrations with Judiciary for favouring the rich at the expense of the poor. “I thought senator Joy Gwendo was sentenced to jail "with no option for bail"! Then what the fuck just happened? Why has she been released on a 400,000 cash bail? Does it mean that only the poor should go to jail but the corrupt rich will always buy their freedom? Pathetic!," asked one Kenyan who is identified as Juma G.  “There is the peculiar case of Joy Gwendo who somehow got bail AFTER she had been convicted and jailed???Madness! #Failed Judiciary,” Polycarp Hinga wrote.
