For a while now, Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ have been receiving monthly security updates ahead of Samsung Galaxy S10 series here in Kenya, but this seems to have ended, at least this month.

Usually, the newest device gets more attention from the makers and thus it’s prioritized ahead of others when it comes to receiving software updates. I’m not sure whether this will be the case going forward, but with the Galaxy Note 10 around the corner, things might change even further.

As I write this, firmware files meant for Samsung Galaxy S10 series phones have popped up online with an updated security patch level dated August 1, 2019. Owners of any of the three S10 variants sold in Kenya should receive the new software in the coming days.

At the moment, we haven’t received any reports about the actual rollout, but with the firmware already out there, the OTA rollout should begin pretty soon, probably over the weekend or early next week. It is also then that we’ll get to know if the update has more than just the new security patch level.

When it arrives, the firmware version for Samsung Galaxy S10 will be G973FXXS3ASH1 while the S10e will receive an update with version G970FXXS3ASH1. If you own the S10+, the update will come your way as version G975FXXS3ASH1, but for now, we still don’t know their exact sizes.
