- Steve Bruce has been appointed as Newcastle United's new manager
- The tactician will take over from Rafa Benitez
- Bruce recently resigned from his position with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday
Premier League side Newcastle United have named Steve Bruce as their new head coach ahead of the coming league season.
The 58-year-old will take over from Rafa Benitez whose expired deal was not renewed by the club chiefs this summer.
Bruce stepped down from his position at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month in anticipation of landing the Newcastle role.
Bruce and his back room staff will link up with his new team in China as they prepare for their Premier League Asia Trophy clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Ben Dawson and Neil Redfearn will be in charge of the team for the game in Asia today.
In over 21-year of his coaching career, Bruce has taken charge of about eight clubs, including Sunderland and Crystal Palace, and has clocked up more than 900 competitive matches.
During his playing career, Bruce featured for Manchester United for nine years before finally hanging his boot in 1999.
He won 12 major titles including three Premier Leagues during his reign at Old Trafford.
