Supreme Court set to deliver 13 election petitions judgments Friday

The Supreme Court is expected to deliver rulings and judgments’ regarding governors and parliamentary petitions this Friday.

Eight governors will know their fate this Friday when the highest court in the country delivers its judgments on 13 petitions.

The five judge bench of the Supreme Court will rule on election petitions that include Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, Kwale’s Salim Mvurya, Nyamira’s John Nyangarama, Laikipia’s Ndiritu Muriithi, Lamu’s Fahim Twaha. Others are Embu Governor Martin Wambora, Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti, Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud.

Also to know their fates are Marsabit County Women Representative seat, Embakasi South, Kilgoris, Nandi Hills, Ugenya, Bonchari constituencies and four other election petitions.

The petitions were filed in courts after the 2017 general elections and they have been heard and determined in the high court and the court of appeal before landing in the apex court.

The court in a public notice signed by the Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court Daniel Ole Keiwau indicates that the 1st petition to be dispensed off will be that of Machakos Governor.

Mutua’s poll win was nullified by the Court of Appeal after his arch-rival Wavinya Ndeti contested a High Court decision in February upholding the election of the second-term governor.
