The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) is up in arms over the proposed pay cuts by some public universities.
UASU Secretary-General Constantine Wasonga and Chairman Muga K’Olale say union members will not accept their salaries to be slashed during this Coronavirus pandemic period.
Wasonga said they had received complaints from their members on plans by some universities to slash salaries due to what management claimed was lack of enough funds following the closure of the institutions of higher learning.
He said University administrations should contact the union for deliberations on the issue before effecting pay cuts.

Wasonga advised the university administrations to instead ask National Treasury to bail them out.
In a notice to staff Wednesday, Egerton University Vice-Chancellor Rose Mwonya said the university management board had resolved to pay in full staff in grades One to Four while their colleagues in grades Five to 19 receive 60 per cent of their net pay.
The memo further said the balance would be settled as soon as funds are available.
Kisii University has also announced a 40 per cent pay cut saying it has a deficit of Ksh 56 million.
