Wanyama to join Spurs camp ‘next week’

Harambee stars Captain, Victor Wanyama will link up with his Tottenham Hotspur teammates next week, the English Premier League club has confirmed.

Wanyama was not included in the squad for the 2019 International Champions Cup matches in Singapore and Shanghai due to his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt with the national team in June and July, bringing up fears that the midfielder might be sold in the current transfer window.

Wanyama played in all the three matches for Kenya in Group C against Algeria, Tanzania and Senegal.

“Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez and Victor Wanyama will return to Enfield to start pre-season training next week following commitments with their national teams at summer tournaments,” read the club’s statement on their official portal.

Wanyama is believed to be on holiday after the AFCON assignment and the confirmation of his return puts to bed rumours the former Celtic and Southampton midfielder is set to leave.

The arrival of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon means Wanyama will have stiff midfield competition once the 2019/20 kicks off.

Last season he only played in 13 Premier League games following a nagging knee injury.
