3,746 Test Positive as Covid-19 Death Toll Hits 5,356

The Ministry of Health has announced 3,746 new Covid-19 cases, raising the country’s caseload to 274,645.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 23rd December, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the latest figure was derived from 11,537 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

This brings to 2,966,713 the cumulative number of Covid-19 tests. The country’s positivity rate now stands at 32.5 per cent.

Of the new cases, 3,542 are Kenyans and 204 foreigners while 1,759 are males and 1,987 are females. The youngest is a six-month-old child while the oldest is 104 years.

Kagwe confirmed that 60 patients have recovered from the disease, 59 from various health facilities and one is from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. The total number of recoveries now stands at 249,617.

On a sad note, one patient succumbed to the disease pushing the number of total fatalities to 5,356.

There are 554 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 11,329 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 

Some 17 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 10 of them on ventilatory support while seven are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 101 patients are on supplemental oxygen, 97 of them are in the general wards while four patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Vaccination: As of 22nd December 2021 Kenya recorded the highest number of vaccines administered on a single day at 205,948.

“We have surpassed our previous record of vaccinating 154,887 persons in a single day that was recorded on Monday 20th December 2021.

“Of these, 81,292 are first doses while 124,656 are second doses and Johnson and Johnson vaccine. We are happy that more people are presenting themselves for the first dose compared to last week,” said Kagwe.
