Africa reaps from Sh588 billion British Airways investment plan

New catering and revamped lounges are part of the measures included in the British Airways investment plan in Kenya.

The Ksh588.2 billion investment plan has been rolling out on the continent over the course of the year and apart from Kenya includes at least five other African nations.

South Africa seems to be benefiting the most, as the UK carrier recently launched a three flights a week service direct from London to Durban. The new route uses one of the newest  British Airways aircraft, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

In a statement, British Airways said the Durban services began just after it added four 787-8 flights a week between London and Johannesburg to complement the existing double-daily A380 schedule.

“With 38 flights a week, this is the most choice and capacity we’ve ever offered between South Africa and the UK,” said Sue Petrie, British Airways’ trade commercial manager for Southern Africa.

In Seychelles meanwhile, British Airways introduced a twice-weekly service from London’s Heathrow airport. Around the same time, BA also increased its Gatwick airport to Mauritius schedule from three to five flights a week.

More seats have been added to the airliner’s Lagos, Nigeria route, while new bedding and amenities in premium cabins have been rolled out in the Accra,Ghana flights.

As part of introducing new onboard products and service, the offensive is also seeing the expansion of menus and snack options, as well as securing Wi-Fi for some of its African seats.
