The coronavirus cases continue to escalate in the country daily with more than 90% being local transmissions hence underscoring the need for strengthening community prevention and surveillance activities.
All staff must take mandatory COVID-19 test before accessing Kisumu county offices, Governor Anyang Nyong'o has announced in bid to curb the spread of the virus as the country prepares to return to normalcy.

The first term county boss said the tests would begin on Thursday, July 2, and the move is aimed at giving members of the public the confidence and to also make them realise the importance of taking the COVID-19 test.
"I know many people are afraid of taking this test because of the unknown result,but I want to tell you knowing your status will help you protect your loved ones from this killer virus," said Nyong'o.

Speaking during the flagging of a HINO truck donated to the Kisumu county COVID-19 fund management committee to aid in food distribution to vulnerable families, the governor said the county was also working on post COVID-19 recovery plans.

At the same time Nyong'o said the county had reported 24 infections with one death since the outbreak of this pandemic.
" To fight this killer virus our people must be prepared for some new tough guidelines and restrictions. And that why as from tomorrow all staff in the county offices must take a mandatory test before accessing their offices,"the governor said
The former Health minister was accompanied by his deputy Ochieng' Owili and a host of county officials.
As of Wednesday, July 2, Kenya had recorded 6,673 COVID-19 cases after a record 307 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours.
