Butere Girls school on fire? – Weekly Citizen

The name of Deputy President William Ruto’s wife Rachel Ruto is being mentioned in an alleged cover up in last week’s suicide incident at Butere Girls secondary school.

Last week, a student committed suicide at the school and left a note accusing the school of “punishing” her for a “minor mistake” we learnt that she had been found with a stolen blouse.

Mrs Ruto, an alumnae at the school is said to actively involved in directing what should be done by top police officers in the county on the incident.

According to a police source, the school Principal Jennifer Omondi, enjoying protection from the DP’s wife, was very rude to police officers investigating the incident.

“The lady openly brags that she was untouchable she had even refused to record a statement to the effect” said our source.

Sources from inside the school have pointed out bad management, high handedness and blatant theft by Mrs. Omondi and her relatives as contributing to the poor state of things at the school.

Weekly Citizen established that since she controversially took over the running of the school, the Principal has been systematically sacking locals working in the school and replacing them with those from his Luo home.

The latest incident of suicide has however left many questions than answers with both the BOG and the sponsor doubting if a neck-tie can kill someone.

A teacher at the school told journalists in Butere town that the body of the student was not found on a bed at the the dormitory as claimed by the Butere OCPD but on the floor.

Our police source said the DP’s spouse who was behind the current Principal’s controversial take over had attempted to have the death covered up from the media and it is claimed she called to ask why the Butere OCPD talked to the press.

The school Principal has of late been in an eye of a storm following investigations by the EACC over controversial purchase of bakery equipment and suspicious withdrawals coupled with unreicepted payments.

Sensing that something could go wrong Mrs. Omondi last week sent home 15 local workers in the school bakery and intends to employ from her community.

Local Education office despite receiving complaints from both teaching and non teaching staff from the school has kept its distance with the issues.
