CAF slaps Gor Mahia with KSh 1.5 million fine ▷ Kenya News

Kenyan Premier League leaders Gor Mahia have been slapped with a KSh 1.5 million fine for trouble caused during two CAF Confederation Cup matches.

Green Army members were reportedly caught on camera throwing objects in the pitch after taking issue with match officials during the game against Hussein Dey on February 24.

Gor fans were also fined for throwing bottles on the pitch during the final group stage match against Angola side, Petro Atletico, played on March 17, which they won 1-0 at Nyayo National Stadium.

The fans ended up invading the pitch during the eventful match that saw two Gor Mahia players sent off and Jacques Tuyisenge score the winner through a penalty.

The CAF's disciplinary board has now reviewed the events and charged the Kenyan champions for endangering the lives of match officials and players by not containing their fans.

The club was charged KSh 500,000 for the first incident against Hussein Dey and KSh 1 million for pitch invasion during the match against Petro Atletico.

"Two supporters of the local team entered the field of play at the 57th minute of the game. After intervention of the police, the game was able to resume normally. After the final whistle, there was a dangerous invasion of the field of play by the supporters of the local team (FC Gor Mahia).
It was with great difficulty in the absence of the failing security at the end of the game, that we were able to join our locker room without additional incidents," said the letter sent to Gor Mahia.

"CAF disciplinary Board decided to impose upon your club a financial sanction of 5,000 for the unsporting behavior and throwing of bottles by the spectators in the above mentioned match," it stated.

The reigning Kenya Premier League champions have been given a three-day window to notify CAF of their decision to appeal both decisions of they decide to contest it legally.

The club paid a similar fine in January for their players' unsporting behavior during their CAF Champions League qualification match against Nigeria Lobi Stars.
