Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi has confirmed 278 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours raising the national tally to 5,811 from from a cumulative figure of 162, 478 tests done so far.
The health official who spoke in the afternoon of Saturday, June 27, at Afya House, Nairobi, said all infections involved Kenyans except two.
Mwangangi said 31 more patients had been discharged as four more succumbed to the disease.
"Two hundred and seventy eight more people have tested positive for COVID-19 from 4,074 samples tested in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases now rises to 5,811,"
"In the last 24 hours, 31 people have been discharged from various hospitals bringing the tally of recoveries to 1936. Unfortunately, four more people have succumbed to COVID-19 bringing the tally of fatalities to 141,"the CAS said.
Of the total cases, 181 were males while 97 females. The youngest was a one-year-old old infant, while the oldest was 84.
The cases were distributed as follows: Nairobi led with 171 followed by Mombasa (37), Nakuru (17), Kiambu (12), Busia (10) and Uasin Gishu (nine).
Kajiado had four, Migori (three), Kericho, Machakos, Nandi and Trans Nzoia had two while Siaya Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kisumu, Makueni, Meru,and Vihiga registered one case each.
In Nairobi which recorded the highest cases of the day, the disease was detected inWestlands (34), Lang’ata (28), Dagoretti North (17), Makadara (16), Kibra (11), Embakasi East (10), Kasarani (nine), Embakasi South and Kamukunji (eight), Starehe (six), Embakasi West and Dagoretti South (five), Embakasi Central and Roysambu (four), Mathare (three), Ruaraka (tow) and Embakasi North (one).
