Secretary general for Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU), Francis Atwoli, has dismissed claims that he has been hospitalised after testing positive for COVID-19.
Atwoli was responding to a report that was published on social media claiming the vocal trade unionist had contracted the dreaded virus and was admitted at one of the hospitals in Nairobi.

In a Twitter post on Wednesday, July 1, Atwoli said the news was false and that he was in good health contrary to the report.
"Let’s avoid sharing fake news. Considering I am a person of interest, I will make it public if I were to get hospitalised. It’s God, the one God I pray to, who takes care of me," said Atwoli.
The country's biggest trade union also reiterated its boss was in good health and had been busy attending meetings online.

"Avoid the fake news making rounds that our Secretary General Bro Francis Atwoli has been hospitalised.
"The SG is in good health and has been busy attending meetings and online engagements aimed at cushioning workers from the economic shock of COVID," COTU added.
Although unrelated, the fake story emerged amid another rumour that former president Mwai Kibaki had also been admitted at a local hospital after falling ill.

Kibaki’s private secretary Ngari Gituku said the ex-commander-in-chief had recently visited a Nairobi hospital for a routine check-up, more like passing by, and was not admitted to the medical facility.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga is currently recuperating in Dubai where he had gone for minor surgery.
“He is in the United Arab Emirates-Dubai based International Hospital run by Germans. He has been successfully treated of a mild nerve disorder affecting one leg and not what has been alleged,” she said.
