Covid-19 Death Toll Hits 4,757 as 1,001 People Test Positive

The national Covid-19 death toll has risen to 4,757 after 11 more patients succumbed to the virus, the Ministry of Health has announced.

In a statement issued in Nairobi on Friday, 3rd September, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe reported 1,001 new infections from 9,065 samples tested, raising the caseload to 238,852.

This brings to 238,852 the cumulative number of samples tested so far. The country’s positivity rate is at 11 per cent.

Of the cases, 988 are Kenyans while 13 are foreigners. There are 504 males and 497 females. The youngest case is a four-month-old baby and the oldest is 110.

Some 1,155 patients were discharged, 1,001 from the home-based care programme, and 154 from various hospitals across the country. The total number of recoveries now stands at 226,037.

There are 1,867 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 5,190 patients are under the home-based isolation and care programme.

Of these, 135 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 90 of whom are on ventilatory support, 43 on supplemental oxygen and two other patients are under observation.

Another 780 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 716of them in general wards and 64 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

The cases are spread in counties as follows: Nairobi 211 cases, Laikipia 107, Nakuru 58, Uasin Gishu 54, Kitui 53, Kiambu 49, Marsabit 44, Mombasa 35, Meru 33, Nyandarua 32, Nyeri 29, Bungoma 27, Murang’a 26, Baringo 21, Wajir 20, Turkana 19, Kericho 17, Machakos 16, Kajiado 15, Taita-Taveta 13, Embu and Garissa,, 12 cases each, and Isiolo and Kilifi 11, cases each. Tharaka Nithi and Busia reported nine cases each, Kakamega and Kisii, eight cases, Narok seven, Bomet and Makueni, five cases each, Migori, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Lamu, four cases each, Kirinyaga three, Tana River, Nandi, Trans Nzoia and West Pokot, two cases each, while Kisumu and Siaya recorded one case each.
