Covid-19 Death Toll Rises to 4,906 as 269 Test Positive

The Ministry of Health has announced 269 new Covid-19 cases, with more more deaths taking the total to 4,906. The country’s caseload is now at 243,725.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 12th September, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said that the latest figures had been derived from the 3,872 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 2,454,663 the cumulative number of Covid-19 tests done. The positivity rate is at 6.9 per cent.

From the new cases, 265 are Kenyans, while four are foreigners, with 135 being males and 134 females. The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 101.

The country’s death toll rose to 4,906 after four more patients succumbed to the virus.

Kagwe said 960 patients had recovered, 895 from the home-based and isolation care programme, while 65 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries stands at 232,918.

There are 1,600 patients admitted to various health facilities, while 4,032 patients are in home-based isolation and care.

Some 141 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 93 of whom are on ventilatory support, 34 on supplemental oxygen and 14 patients are under observation.

Another 626 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 567 of them in general wards and 59 in High Dependency Units.

Vaccination: As of 11th September, a total of 3,090,932 vaccines had been administered across the country. Of these, the total first doses are 2,262,968 while the second doses are 827,964.

The uptake of the second dose is at 36.6 per cent, with the majority being males at (56 per cent) while females are at (44 per cent). Proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 3.04 per cent.
