Deputy President William Ruto was among the millions of Kenyans who took to social media to celebrate marathon hero Eliud Kipchoge as “the greatest of all time” after he triumphed once again in the London Marathon.

Kipchoge already had a world record under his belt going into the Sunday, April 28 marathon, when he won the event in the 2018 edition in Germany.

He was a clear favorite in London, although not many would have imagined he would be on course for his second triumph in only a year.

Part of what amazed Kipchoge’s unconditional home fans was the fact that he was unbothered on the tracks when he was competing against the likes of multi-Olympic, world and European champion over 10,000 and 5,000 metres Mo Farah.

Through his official Twitter , Ruto hailed 34-year old Kipchoge for his "energetic, dominant and electrifying" performance.

"Congratulations to Eliud Kipchoge for an energetic, dominant and electrifying display to win the #LondonMarathon and cementing his status as one of the greatest marathoners of all time. We savour a fantastic victory," he wrote.

His sentiments were echoed by a number of Kenyans online who felt Kipchoge was only one of a few things about the country which citizens can be proud about.
