As the 2022 General Election fast approaches, there is nothing Kenyans haven’t seen so far. Politicians are pulling all kinds of tricks and tactics to win over the voters.

Deputy President William Ruto has caused a stir on social media after he was filmed visiting a small eatery in Nyamira.

The joint is named Bottom Up Hotel, perhaps inspired by the DP’s economic model, which trades in the same name.

An elated DP was spotted entering the mud-walled hotel. For one to access inside, he/she must bend at the door.

The second in command enjoyed tea and mandazis with the locals. He also interacted with them like an ordinary Kenyan.

The owner of the joint, Zachary Matunda, and his wife said they started the business after losing all they had.

“We opened this kiosk and named it Bottom Up Hotel because we believe in your economic ideologies. We are so grateful that you came here,” he said.

Dr. Ruto gave the couple some money to grow their hustle.

“God, you have answered my prayers. Thank you so much our DP,” the woman said, as tears rolled down her face.

The gesture has sparked an elusive debate among Kenyans, with some heaping praises at the DP for being humble and seeing nothing, but a pure PR gimmick.

Supporters of the DP said Kenya needs a President like Ruto, who supports small businesses.

However, critics observed that part of the hotel looked like it was repainted this morning, a clear indication that the DP handlers could planned the plug for propaganda reasons.

The Reactions:

Mwendwa Mwebia: “The writings can show that someone qualified was hired to do this. The green grass around the ‘hotel’ demonstrates more of a homestead. Notice the fresh paint?

James Magu: “Our humble 5th President.”

Mohamed Subow: “Ruto is sharing the small he has with the poor.”

Ndotch Ndegwa: “A small hotel without a menu anywhere in the wall? The price of the painting is expensive than the hotel itself.”

Serah Nyaboke: “The script wasn’t well written, clearly that’s someone’s home. And how come the seats have cushions? A terrible script.”

Wachuka Wambui: “I did shed seeing the lady praise God… from grass to grace.”

Alex Waweru: “And the best male actor of the year is William Ruto. Clap for him.”

Mwisukuue Wang’ata: “Ruto is humble and approachable. He is our 5th President.”

Simon Gichuki: “Stage managed. How did Ruto come to know about this kibandaski which is not even near a road? Don’t fool us.”

Solomon Mwanja: “We expect more drama from politicians. It’s campaign season.”

Lawrence Kihanya: “Zachary Matunda’s house converted to a hotel overnight. So Ruto can stage-manage a hustler moment?”
