Dubci, is set to launch ride-hailing services in Cairo, Egypt to take on the Uber and Careem and shuttle service Swvl, Buseet and smaller apps like Fyonka among others.

Dubci is expected to launch car, bike, boat, bus, mini-bus, and helicopter hailing services in a move expected to introduce competition to Uber Technologies Uber and Careem in Egypt where both operate.

In March this year, Uber announced a deal to buy Middle East competitor Careem for $3.1 billion. Though the firms are awaiting regulatory approvals in the various countries Careem operates till Q1 2020, the acquisition will reduce competition even if the brands remain independent.

Uber’s acquisition of Careem’s mobility, delivery, and payments businesses across the greater Middle East region, ranging from Morocco to Pakistan, with major markets including Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates will create a huge void and the two will make it harder for a new player to enter the market. It will be hard for a new player to compete with Uber Technologies platforms.

The entry of Dubci is good news for the country on both pricing and job and investment opportunities for Egyptians. Dubci hasn’t divulged more details about its operations but there have been reports that it has a former Egyptian army spokesperson in its executive team.

Apart from Dubci, Slyd, a new MENA first electric scooter ride-sharing platform has launched in Cairo, Egypt to give users the freedom to pick up and ride personal electric scooters and drop them whenever they need.
