Enough is Enough: Kenyans rise against ethnic profiling of Kikuyus

They hail themselves as “the Jews of Kenya,” envied and hated in equal measure for that entrepreneurial zeal.

But there’s a difference: Europe’s Jews never combined economic influence with political power. The Kikuyu have done just that, providing three of Kenya’s four presidents. This however has not come on a silver platter.

Uhuru, being the political genius we have known him to be, engineered the handshake as a political masterstroke aimed at ensuring that Mt Kenya is not sidelined as he leaves office.

However, DP Ruto, a student of Moi’s political class and in his selfish manifest, is playing divide and rule card on Kikuyus, and patriotic Kenyans are not taking it lying down.

Furious Kenyans online have now waged fierce war against profiling of Kikuyus by selfish and greedy politicians.

The enraged netizens are calling out politicians allied to DP Ruto’s Tangatanga faction of Jubilee party, who have covertly been profiling the Kikuyus ethnically as  2022 succession race gears up.

The politicians utterances are aimed at whipping public emotions and spark animosity towards the Kikuyu. Every time a Kikuyu is appointed to an important position in government their name betrays them.

Under the hashtag #ProfilingKikuyus which has trended at the top since early morning, netizens noted with lots of concern that Tangatanga politicians are building up their own base of support by feeding resentment toward Kikuyus.

It will be remembered in 2007/08 that DP Ruto who is a Kalenjin marshalled Kalenjin youths to draw out Kikuyu’s from the expansive Rift Valley where they legally owned big pieces of land. This saw up to 2,000 kikuyus killed and as many as 300,000 displaced from their homes.

However the fact remains that; Kikuyu are the most populous community in Kenya and it’s common knowledge that you expect to find more Kikuyu in prison, hospitals, abroad and most definitely in government;

Here are more comments;

Kikuyu community is the biggest ethnic tribe in Kenya. They contribute 40% of Kenya's GDP and 30% of National Revenue but resources and opportunities and distributed equally in all tribes despite the fact that Kikuyus are the majority#ProfilingKIKUYUS pic.twitter.com/DZ8ZRWoL2c

The forcible removal of Kikuyu from urban centers and the prohibition of Kikuyu leaders from political activity during the conflict enabled other groups to obtain government and political posts that the Kikuyu would otherwise have filled.

This is hogwash. In every department, there is a senior Kikuyu! There are other tribes with learned people who are not in GoK. Jomo planted negative ETHNICITY, Moi copied him, Kibaki accepted it and Uhuru normalised it. This culture must be contained. #ProfilingKikuyus pic.twitter.com/T4jePE02Vq

If there's anything like Kikuyu Privilege in Kenya, there would be no single one of them who would have been killed in ethnic clashes..Kikuyus are treated harshly and with suspicion by security apparatus in this country since time immemorial. Is that a Privilege?#ProfilingKIKUYUS pic.twitter.com/NGiBWm1uwz
