Farmcrowdy, and its sister companies, Farmgate Africa & Agricsquare have been bundled into one company in a move that will birth a bigger platform to open more farm projects to its farm sponsors.
Farmcrowdy targets expansion into 4 new states and double its current supply to 100 cows per day by the end of the year to partners such as retailers, hotels, and eateries across the country.
“This is a very significant step for Farmcrowdy as it will allow the combined entity to have a stronger foothold in the Agriculture value chain, by dealing with core crop farming processes, production and trading side of commodities as well as marketing media for agriculture,” said the company in a blog post.
Kenneth Obiajulu, the MD for Farmgate Africa, will oversee the Farmcrowdy Group operations while Temitope Omotolani, Chief Operations Officer for Farmcrowdy will continue to oversee crop production, feedlot production of the company.
The bigger Farmcrowdy platform will feature all options available from both Farmcrowdy and Farmgate Africa giving its investors access to Beef processing, Ginger farms, Cattle farms, Poultry farms, among others.
Agricsquare, a community of over 20,000 agriculture enthusiasts in the country, will continue to run as a product of Farmcrowdy.
Farmcrowdy founder and CEO, Onyeka Akumah will become the Group’s chairman. He says this move will help attract more talent, expand Farmcrowdy’s reach in the agriculture value chain and provide more options for sponsors on its platform.
Farmcrowdy is operational in 14 states across Nigeria and has signed up over 25,000 farmers into its program. Farmers using the platform have cultivated over 16,000 acres of farmland across the country. To grow its livestock chain, Farmcrowdy recently inked a deal with Livestock247, an online livestock marketplace and Best Foods Livestock and Poultry Ltd, a leading name in the livestock and seafood processing industry in Nigeria.
In May, Farmcrowdy Group, won the Global Disruptive Innovation in Agriculture by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in Rome, Italy for its ability to lead to social, environmental and economic improvements if implemented in developing countries.
The firm was also recently recognised at the Next Bulls Awards for its market leadership, innovation, growth trajectory, market dominance, and brand authenticity. The award was presented by President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Mr. Oscar Onyema and CEO of BusinessDay, Mr. Frank Aigbogun.
