The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) has issued a ban on all flights from Kenya to Dubai for 48 hours.
In a statement issued by Fly Emirates, the directive is set to take effect from December 20, 2021, at 10:30 am.
Despite this decree, flights scheduled before the stated time remain unchanged.
“Customers will not be accepted for travel on Emirates flights at Nairobi during this time,” reads an excerpt from the Fly Emirates.
Emirates communicated to the passengers whose flights have been interrupted, telling them not to lodge their complaints immediately but to hold onto their tickets until the resumptions of the flights after the end of the ban.
“…get in touch with their travel agent or booking office to make new travel plans. Emirates regrets any inconvenience caused.”
It is still not yet clear why the ban had been issued, and the Emirates offices at Nairobi noted that they are now busy handling issues from their customers, and one would remain on hold up to 48 hours.
“Kindly note that we are receiving too many calls and you may hold up to 48 hours,” Emirates stated.
This development comes days after Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe confirmed that Kenya had registered one case of Omicron Covid-19 variant, and cautioned Kenyans to observe all preventive measures to counter its spread.
Kagwe further instructed Kenyans to get vaccinated as the vaccines are issued everywhere within the country in both public and private hospitals.
“Our experts are still debating the issue, observing and sequencing in our labs to see what kind of variant we have. Variants will come and go,” he stated.
