Trouble started in 2016 when the 28-year-old went for a leave at his rural home after his wife fell ill and eventually succumbed to throat cancer, as reported by Daily Nation.
He said he received a letter of suspension which was delivered at Ainamoi Police Station which is near his home in Kericho county.
Amid depression that followed the death of his wife, Langat turned to alcohol as his source of comfort and within no time he had become an addict who could not survive without the drink.
He later started doing menial jobs to finance his drinking habit and also take care of his two-year-old daughter. He slowly transitioned from digging latrines in the village to crushing stones.

However, he reached a point and realised things were getting out of hand. It is at that point that a friend refereed him to one Moses Kimenchu, who counsels drug and alcohol addicts.
After a few weeks of counselling, he realised he had lost his live to the bottle and made a decisions to change.
Currently, all that Langat is asking for is to get back to his job if that is possible or at least get another occupation that can help him feed his daughter and ageing parents.
“I have gone through hell due to drinking and I feel that I’m tired of this life. I would love to go back to my normal life and get back my job if possible,” said Langat.
