Govt Attains Projected Covid-19 Vaccination Target

Kenya has managed to attain the projected 10 million target in the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination campaign as the year comes to an end.

As of 30th December 2021, a total of 10,002,184 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. 5,820,951 are those above 18 years who are partially vaccinated and 4,155,832 who are fully vaccinated.

Another 20,121 doses were administered to those between 15 to 18 years while 5,280 are booster doses. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 55.8 per cent.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 15.3 per cent. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.

On the Covid-19 situation, the country recorded 2,791 cases from a sample size of 9,384 tested in the last 24 hours. This brings the country’s coronavirus caseload to 295,028.

The positivity rate is now at 29.7 per cent with the cumulative tests so far conducted standing at 3,030,272.  

Of the new cases, 2,573 are Kenyans while 218 are foreigners with 1,357 being males and 1,434 females. The youngest is an eight-month-old baby while the oldest is 103 years.

Some 1,058 patients have recovered, 139 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 99 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 252,281.

Two patients have succumbed to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in December 2021. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,378.

There are 1,013 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 23,229 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 

At the same time, 38 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit, 17 of them on ventilatory support while 21 are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 234 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 209 of them are in the general wards and 25 patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
