A General Service Unit (GSU) police officer arrested in connection with the murder of two women in Katani, Machakos County has been detained for 21 days to allow police conclude investigations.
Anthony Kilonzo who was arrested at a hospital in Nairobi where he had gone to seek treatment for a gunshot wound, surprised the court when he claimed that he was hired to kill the mother and her daughter.
However, Kilonzo’s narration was interrupted after the court attempted to establish whether he was aware of the implication of his claims.
The court also directed that he be taken for a mental assessment.

In a miscellaneous application, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations claimed that the suspect who is a trained GSU officer may be involved in a series of crimes; therefore releasing him on bond could intimidate witnesses in the case.
Kilonzo will be charged with murder if positively identified by the third victim of the shooting, who is still admitted at hospital and is yet to record a statement.
Elsewhere, a director of a clearing and forwarding firm alongside two directors of two second hand motor vehicles importing firms have been charged in a Mombasa court for allegedly colluding to evade import duty worth 15 Million shillings.
Jamal Abdulrahman Mao Ahmad Karama Omar and Said Maridadi Maulana denied the charge before Mombasa senior resident magistrate Vincent Adet and were released on a cash bail of 100,000 or an alternative bond of 1 million shillings with the case set to be heard on 18 November 2019.
