Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne has hailed John Avire's impact after coming on against Tanzania in an African Cup of Nations group C Match played at Air Defense Stadium in Cairo.

The Sofapaka youngster was introduced at the half hour mark for Francis Kahata with Kenya trailing by a solitary goal.

His runs unsettled the Tanzania defence as Kenya went on to win 3-2 courtesy of a Michael Olunga brace and another goal from Johanna Omollo.

Known for his industriousness, Avire caused the Tanzania backline problems and twice came close to finding the back of the net.

A section of Kenyans on social media praised his input and Migne says his introduction gave Kenya an edge as he partnered Olunga well upfront.

“I think it was a good decision. It was necessary to add a striker to partner Olunga upfront and Avire coming on gave Olunga much more freedom.
"Sometimes coaches are afraid of fielding young players in such matches but I’m not,” he said.

That was Avire's first competitive game for Kenya. The Passenga High school alumnus was a surprise inclusion when Migne named his AFCON squad.
