
The Court of Appeal has given its verdict on when the Cabinet Secretaries (CS) and other civil servants seeking elective seats in 2022 should resign.
In its ruling, the Court withheld the time stipulated by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and all civil servants eyeing various seats in 2022 polls slated for August must exit office before February 9, 2022.
After the ruling, two Cabinet Secretaries, Charles Keter of Devolution and his petroleum and mining counterpart John Munyes, have called it quits at the President Uhuru’s Cabinet, and announced that they will be seeking Kericho and Turkana gubernatorial seats, respectively.
Here is the list of Cabinet Secretaries and Chief Administrative Secretaries who have resigned ahead of 2022 polls:
Tuesday, February 8
15:30 – CAS in the Education Ministry, Hassan Noor Hassan, has resigned to contest in Mandera gubernatorial race.
13:40 – Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) to EAC, Ken Obura, resigns and announces that he will be contesting for the Kisumu governorship.
13:10 – CAS Mumina Bonaya of Ministry of Education to join Isiolo Women Representative race.
12:46 – Principal Secretary Fred Segor of Ministry of Wildlife and Tourism resigns as he eyes Baringo governorship under United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
12:45 – CAS John Musonik of Petroleum hangs boots to eye Bomet gubernatorial seat.
12:30 – CAS Patrick ole Ntutu of Ministry of Labour and his equivalent Gideon Mung’aro of Devolution resign to contest for Narok and Kilifi gubernatorial seats, respectively.
12:00 – Devolution CS Charles Keter and John Munyes of Petroleum Ministry resign.

Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Wavinya Ndeti of the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development, and Public Works resigns to contest in the Machakos gubernatorial race.

Former Inspector General of Police (IG) Joseph Boinnet resigns as CAS in the Ministry of Wildlife and Tourism to vie for the gubernatorial seat in his home in Elgeiyo Marakwet County.
February 2
The Director of Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Affairs, Machel Wakienda, leaves office to vie for Kiambu senatorial seat.
