The National Assembly has Thursday afternoon dismissed a motion to establish an ad-hoc committee on Covid 19 Prevention, Response and Management.
Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu sought to establish a 23 member committee which would develop necessary legislation on measures against Covid 19.
Wambugu argued that since the World Health Organization had declared Coronavirus as a public health emergency of international concern, there was need to form a team to work closely with the Government on progress in the fight against the pandemic.
The select committee on the Covid 19 Prevention, Response and Management would also coordinate with the National Emergency response committee on Covid 19 to ensure the Committee delivers in its mandate more effectively.

The select committee would consider funding needs and requirements on Covid 19 prevention and management.
Wambugu had anticipated that the Committee would come up with a report and recommendations while making weekly progress reports to the House.
The Nation Assembly Health Committee had however expressed its reservations on the matter claiming it would amount to duplication of roles.
The Motion was therefore unanimously rejected with MPs supporting the view of the Health Committee.
