Saturday January 26, 2019-Chief Justice David Maraga has unapologetically stated that war on corruption will never be won by blaming the Judiciary.

Speaking at anti-corruption workshop held at Bomas and which was attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga among other leaders, Maraga was not amused with the widely circulated social media allegations that Judiciary was an impediment to the war against corruption. Maraga lectured Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, and head of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), George Kinoti, to do their work properly and stop blaming him and the Judiciary. "Mr. President, the war on corruption will not be won with gimmicks and social media propaganda sadly perpetrated by some individuals who are here. Friday arrests won’t win war on corruption. Hired bloggers demonising Judiciary aren't adding value to graft war," said Maraga. "Kinoti and team if you don’t bring evidence we will acquit the suspects. We will not jail any innocent person. Every suspect must undergo fair hearing to be jailed or acquitted. War on corruption will be won with evidence against suspects," Maraga said. The visibly agitated Maraga also told President Uhuru Kenyatta that the blame directed to Judiciary and other agencies tasked with fighting the vice would not deliver the legacy of victory against corruption. He told the President to instead give the Judiciary more funds to help in the fight against graft. Mr. President, we need money to adopt technology in hearing this cases on a fast tracked basis. The public must tell their MPs to increase our funding if they expect efficiency from us,” he said.
