Huawei is set to bolster its own OS, after Google suspended future business with it in a move to comply with the new US government blacklist by President Donald Trump.

Huawei which will still have access to Android’s Open Source Project (AOSP), is expected to bolster its own new OS or develop its Huawei EMUI, a custom mobile operating system based on Android that runs most Huawei premium devices. Introduced in December 2012, Huawei EMUI features a voice assistant app, customizable homescreens and theme-switching.

In a tweet, Google announced,

For Huawei users’ questions regarding our steps to comply w/ the recent US government actions: We assure you while we are complying with all US gov’t requirements, services like Google Play & security from Google Play Protect will keep functioning on your existing Huawei device.

According to a report by Reuters, Google will cut off Huawei’s access to applications that require transfer of hardware, software and technical services however, current Huawei smartphones will still access Google apps and get updates from Android.

The announcement means that Huawei’s future smartphones will not have access to Google’s Android operating system and Google’s popular services such as Google Play Store and Gmail and YouTube apps.

It’s not just Google that is cutting access. Chip manufactures such as Intel Corp, Qualcomm Inc, Xilinx Inc and Broadcom Inc have cut ties with Huawei until further notice, according to a report by Bloomberg.
