The National Police Service has issued a directive on road clearance for VIP’s that has seen all 47 governors, senators and Members of Parliament left out.
In a statement by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is among state officers that have been accorded the VIP treatment on the roads.
The list includes; the President and his deputy, First Lady, Chief Justice, Chief of defence forces, Attorney General, speaker of the National assembly and Senate, Cabinet Secretaries for defence, Interior and foreign affairs, and principal secretary for Interior.
The directive also gave clearance to service commanders of defence forces, Inspector General of National Police Service, Deputy Inspector General of National Police Service and Deputy Inspector General of Administration Police Service and retired Presidents.

“Vehicles not included in the above category will require authority by officers in charge of traffic in respective regions on a special need basis,” said Inspector General.
Mr Mutyambai added that all vehicles including government registered vehicles (GK) should follow the normal traffic flow.
He warned that drivers of government vehicles who are found guilty of flouting traffic rules will be arrested and charged in accordance with the law.
The directive takes place with immediate effect.
