International Sports Press Association pays tribute to James “Odu Cobra” : The Standard

A minute of silence was observed at the 82nd International Sports Press Association (AIPS) congress in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday night in remembrance of the late James Oduor “Odu Cobra” and other departed sports journalists across the world. Cobra who was an ardent supporter of Gor Mahia died in the January 15 terror attack at the luxurious dusitD2 hotel building.

Odu, who worked at LG offices was among the first people to send out distress calls on his Twitter handle immediately the attack began. “Waaaah. What's happening at 14 Riverside fam? Any news from out there?” – said one of his posts.

As the attacks went on, Cobra kept tweeting, trying to inform Kenyans of what was going on. “What's happening at 14 Riverside man. We're trapped in our buildings. Gunshots and non-stop explosions” – another tweet read. Cobra is said to have succumbed to gunshot wounds. James “Odu Cobra” was the brainchild of Wadau TV, an online channel which discusses topical issues around local players and fans. He was the captain of Kenyan football fans side Hippos FC and played for, among other outfits, Kenya Pipeline and Kisumu Diaspora teams.
