Sam Smith has admitted that he has regularly questioned if he wants a s2x change.
The British singer, 26, proved to be incredibly candid in Jameela Jamil’s new I Weigh Interview series as he discussed what a ‘non-binary’ and ‘genderqueer’ identity meant to him.
The four-time Grammy winner admitted:
You do not identify in a gender. You are just you. You are your own special creation. That is how I take it. I am not male or female. I think I float somewhere in between – somewhat on the spectrum.
Giving further context, Sam responded: ‘I’ve always had a bit of a war in my body and my mind… I do think like a woman in my head at times.
‘I’ve sometimes sat there and questioned, do I want a s33 change? It’s something I still think about, but I don’t think it is,‘ he explained.
Sam also revealed he has always been ‘very free’ when it comes to thinking about his s33uality.
‘I’ve tried to change that into my thoughts on gender… when I move, when I have s33 with men, it’s very feminine. I’m feminine in many ways – and I’ve resented that,’ he stated.
In the same interview, the Stay With Me hitmaker revealed that he struggled with his body his ‘whole life’ and underwent liposuction as a pre-teen.
‘When I was a kid, five or six, I was chubby and then it would get worse and worse and worse and I was holding a lot of weight in my chest.
‘And then when I hit 11 years old I went to the doctors. I was so self-conscious that it was affecting my mood every day and my life as a teenager.
‘I was holding a lot of oestrogen in my chest. I had breasts. I had liposuction, I was 12 years old…. That was a big thing. At the time I was very happy about it,’ he explained.
However, Sam admitted he put back on all of the weight in a span of two weeks because he ‘hadn’t figured out his relationship with food.’
