Western Jaguars coach Peter Okova has urged his side to work on their away form after the Kakamega-based team lost two matches in Nairobi last weekend.

Jaguars registered duplicate 3-2 defeats to Greensharks and Sailors on Saturday and Sunday respectively to end their hopes of ascending to the top of the Kenya Hockey men’s Premier League table.

Jaguars are on 13 points same as Wazalendo a point behind leaders Butali Warriors and while remaining confident, Okova admitted the defeats were depressing.

“Unlike in our first visit to Nairobi when we picked maximum points, this time luck was not on our side. It was a bad outing. It is true we usually play much better when at home but that is a trend we can work on in the course of the season,” said Okova.

“As a team, we are looking to change the narrative and excel no matter where we are playing. We have young talented players who are determined to give their best and I believe they will deliver,” added Okova, whose side dropped to third on the log.

In the other top flight match, Nairobi Simba (Sikh Union) played to a tense 1-1 draw with United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa). Ninth-placed Simba received three yellow cards with the students, ranked sixth, amassing five yellows, a record in recent hockey matches.

In the women’s Premier League, debutants Lakers maintained their unbeaten run with a 2-0 win over Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) to move to third on the log with 11 points same as leaders and champions Telkom and USIU who have played fewer games.
