The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) was on Monday closed indefinitely following students unrest.
The management closed the institution and ordered all the students at the Juja-based campus to clear from the school immediately after what had been planned to be peaceful demonstrations turned ugly.
In a chaotic turn of events, a peaceful demonstration organized by JKUAT students changed course, forcing the school’s management to close the institution.
The student’s body had issued a notice for peaceful protests outside the institution on Monday, but the situation quickly turned into running battles between the students and the police.

The students who went rogue pelted stones to anything in close proximity including cars and buildings.
They also barricaded the roads leading to the university while harassing motorbike riders operating near the institution.
The students are accusing police of laxity in taming criminals who they say have been harassing them.
Heavily armed police officers deployed in the area teargassed the students as they chased them away.
The university through its corporate communication officer Dr Hindzano Ngonyo stated that the school was closed following student’s agitation over reports touching on cases of insecurity outside the University campus in Juja.
