Siaya Senator James Orengo has urged the government to rename Nyayo Stadium after Joe Kadenge in honour of the fallen Kenyan football icon.

Kadenge passed away on Sunday, July 7, at a Nairobi hospital after a long battle with illness that saw him spend life in and out of hospital.

He is regarded as one of the best players Kenya has ever produced and many in the country and outside have paid tribute to the former Harambee Stars player and coach.

He played for Maragoli United and AFC Leopards during his glamourous career.

Orengo now wants the historic Nyayo Stadium named after the former footballer who was known for his great dribbling skills.

“At this time as we remember him (Joe Kadenge) it will be incumbent upon the Kenyan government that one of the national stadia should be named after Kadenge," the lawmaker argued.
"There are so many stadiums with the name Nyayo, I think Nyayo Stadium should become the Kadenge Stadium and the Kasarani one can be left with Moi," he submitted.

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported Kadenge was on Tuesday, July 9, honoured with a moment of silence before the Cecafa Kagame Cup match pitting Bandari and Mukura Victory in Rwanda.

Tributes have been pouring from different parts of the country eulogizing the fallen icon, with the two teams observing a moment of silence before the crunch group stage match.
