Kenya Ports Authority is projecting that by close of the year, the Port of Mombasa container traffic will surpass 1.4 million Twenty-four-Equivalent units.
Speaking in Mombasa, Managing Director Daniel Manduku said traffic will be driven by growing imports as well as measures that have been put in place to enhance efficiency.
KPA Managing Director Daniel Manduku disclosed the strides they have made at the port this year including achieving the one million TEUs mark this week.
He noted that they are bound to surpass the 1.3 million TEUs target they had set for this year.

The efficiency of the port has seen 80 percent of the cargo dwell time reduce to an average of six days.
According to Manduku the standard gauge railway has played a critical role in ending cargo demurrage at the port.
He reiterated that they are working round the clock to sustain at least ten cargo trains to and from the Inland Container Depot in Embakasi, Nairobi daily.
The ongoing phase two of the second container terminal which is under construction will handle an additional 450,000 teus once complete
