
The accelerated Covid-19 vaccination campaign received a boost after a further 504,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine arrived in the country on Thursday evening, 21st October.
The vaccines were received by officials from the Ministry of Health at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The latest consignment was acquired through the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) mechanism.
This is the third consignment of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine to arrive in the country.
Kenya received its first batch of 141,600 doses in September. Early this month, Kenya received 252,000 more doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine that were directly procured by the government.
The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
As of 20th October 2021, a total of 4,733,770 vaccines had so far been administered across the Country. Out of these, 3,416,746 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 1,317,024.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was 36.8 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 4.8 per cent.
