Kenya Records 1,561 New Covid-19 Cases, National Tally Rises to 209,823

The Ministry of Health on Friday, 6th August, announced 1,561 new Covid-19 cases, raising the country’s caseload to 209,823.

The new cases were detected from 10,072 samples tested, raising the cumulative tests to 2,176,118. The country’s positivity rate stands at 15.5 per cent.

In a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases, 1,495 are Kenyans while 66 are foreigners. There are 803 males and 758 females. The youngest is a one-month-old baby while the oldest is 98.

The national death toll rose to 4,088 after 31 more patients succumbed to the virus.

Kagwe said that 102 patients had recovered from the disease, 11 are from the home-based and isolation care programme, while 91 were from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 195,787.

There are 1,576 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide while 5,834 patients are under the home-based isolation and care program.

Some 108 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 46 of whom are on ventilatory support and 55 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 554 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 521 of them in general wards and 33 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Distribution of Cases in Counties:

Nairobi 674, Kiambu 144, Mombasa 74, Nakuru 71, Machakos 57, Kirinyaga 56, Busia 55, Kilifi and Murang’a 44 cases each, Uasin Gishu 32, Kajiado 29, Homa bay 27, Kisii 23, Nandi and Lamu 22 cases each, Nyeri 20, Baringo 19, Kericho 18, Embu 17, Nyandarua 13, Meru 11, Garissa, Migori, Laikipia and Makueni nine cases each, Bomet eight, Taita Taveta and Kitui seven cases each, Siaya and Tana River five cases each, Isiolo, Kakamega and Bungoma four cases each, Narok three, Marsabit and Vihiga two cases each while Tharaka Nithi and Elgeyo Marakwet had one case each.
