Two Kenyan referees will officiate at the African Cup of Nations that will be staged in Egypt in June-July.

The two are Center referee Peter Waweru and assistant referee Gilbert Cheruiyot, both are FIFA referees.

Waweru officiated in the Africa U-20 championship early this year in Niger. That was his first major tournament for the University lecturer who was elevated to the level of FIFA referee in 2017.

Gilbert Cheruiyot on the other hand was elevated to the position of FIFA referee and has handled many international games including Champions League and Caf Confederation Cup matches.

27 center referees and 29 assistant referees have been appointed for AFCON duty.

Egypt and Tunisia have the highest number of center refs (three each) while Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt,Senegal, Sudan and Tunisia have two assistant refs each.

The Kenyan pair will however not take charge of matches involving the national team, Harambee Stars.
