Kenyans On Social Media React After The Illegal Arrest Of BIFU Officials During Peaceful Protest

On Tuesday morning BIFU officials led by the valorous Duncan Muthusi, Gabriel Okomo and Mr Were peacefully marched to the Union’s offices protesting the impunity within the union.

In the protest that was streamed LIVE on CNYAKUNDI.COM, the three led other bankers to the BIFU offices where they sought clarification on several matters. To their surprise, they were locked up inside the offices by BIFU Secretary General Isaiah Kubai who later compromised officers from the Central Police Station to come pick them up despite having all the required legal documents to hold the protest.

Kubai is believed to be acting under strict orders from KCB CEO Joshua Oigara who has constantly been exposed on this site for his poor management of the Kenya Commercial Bank and running illegal activities at the banking institution including helping South Sudan warlords launder their stolen money through the bank.

A member of the CNYAKUNDI media team who was there to cover the protest since all media houses declined to do it was also picked up and thrown into the police Land Cruiser despite not having committed any crime.

Immediately the news broke, Kenyans on social media were quick to react and air their opinions on the matter. Even some journalists who were too afraid to use official work accounts opted to use their personal social media accounts to inform other Kenyans about the happenings during the protest.

They heavily condemned the illegal detention of the bankers.

Breaking: Central police station have colluded with @KCBGroup CEO @JoshuaOigara to arrest protesting BIFU officials. In the meantime, you won’t see that in media because KCB will deny them advertising revenue @ODPP_KE @matundura78 #FreeBifuOfficials

The government (Interior Ministry) or the police can NOT prohibit or restrict a demonstration. To seek such a restriction, they have to go to court.

Isaiah Kubai is under the spotlight over mismanagement, corruption and nepotism after employing his daughter as the BIFU Legal officer, an organization he has been at the helm since 1984.
This means he has been looting and stealing from bankers. #FreeBifuOfficials

#FreeBifuOfficials he flagrant abuse of people’s constitutional rights is wrong and must be condemned. It appears that the gains touted by the establishment, are just a facade, and that we are firmly rooted in the ideals of dictatorship. pic.twitter.com/woNznMYNBD

You go out in the streets to protest corruption and impunity, instead the police arrest you.Aren't those highlighting misappropriation of funds supposed to be protected by the government? @UKenyatta Are we really serious in the fight against corruption? #FreeBifuOfficials

It is surely a dark day for Kenya if innocent protesting bankers and a reporter live streaming an event are arrested for speaking out.

An injustice directed to one Citizen is an Injustice to all citizens. You should not sit back and look as other citizens are being harassed for exercising their Democratic right. Tomorrow it will be you. #FreeBifuOfficials
